Today, I went over to
the middle school to observe field day. For those of you who did not go to the
lower school, they basically have a two-house house system. They two teams are
Red and Gray. The students are split in half, usually based on legacies. In
their field day today the two teams competed in events like running races, long
jump, high jump, relays and much more! I interviewed these students and asked
them how they feel about their affiliation to Red and Gray. Many of them said
they did not feel like Red and Gray were especially important to them. Ms. Post
and I were under the suspicion that there needed to be some type of translation
from Red and Gray into the house system. Some teachers at the Upper School also
believe that it doesn’t make sense that the middle school students get so
passionate about Red and Gray, so it becomes hard for them to be passionate
about the house system in the Upper School. We are going to keep investigating
this issue and see if there is a way to integrate Red and Gray into the house
system. But, for right now we are not going to focus on it too much because so
many middle school students said it did not matter to them.
Till next time,
Ali
