Day 3: Ticketing
My third day was yet again another game day, but this day I was in ticketing! It was education day at the ballpark so we had over 5,000 kids in attendance along with other fans. I was in the box office with other members of the ticketing department and got to experience the hectic traffic of fans wanting to buy tickets but also wanting to get into the game. I honestly found it really interesting of the amount of people in attendance at the game. I always thought that these minor league games were places people came to if they got tickets from work or they wanted to come with their families. However, after shadowing the ticketing department I learned that there are actually season ticket holders and companies that own a lot of seats to these games. I learned that there is a lot of strategy and preparation that goes into ticketing and how they generate a lot of their revenue is the relationships with companies and fans that come to multiple games. I enjoyed this day because I was put to work and got to run errands during the game and drop off tickets, escort fans along with showing our season ticket holders the new additions to the stadium. Ticketing plays a large role in sports marketing because they generate the majority of the revenue and it is their job to actually make the calls over the phone and sell to fans.
