Today,
Ms. Post and I went to visit Lakeridge Academy in North
Ridgeville. There, we met with the head of their house system to learn more
about their house system. Theirs is quite a bit different from ours in the idea
that they only have about 50 students per house. They also only have three
student leaders and a single faculty leader. The responsibilities of the house
leaders and members are very different. Instead of House Leaders as a
collective entity planning different events, at Lakeridge the students in each
house come together to plan events. Each year, each house is in charge of
planning a school dance and a major fundraising initiatives as well as other
“house challenges”. At Lakeridge they also use the house system to get more
people to show up to sporting events. They gave us a lot of great ideas. Each
of these things that they do could really serve as a guiding idea for what to
do to change our House System here at Hawken.
One of the biggest takeaways was the idea of making each house smaller
and having more houses. If Hawken created 8 houses instead of 4 we could have a
lot more unity within the house.
Till next time,
Ali
