Day 4 & 5: Promo/Ticketing
Day 4 & 5
On my fourth day I was back with Christina and the promo team but this time we were doing office work and it was not a game day. Throughout the day I shadowed her two interns Danielle and Christina and we did inventory along with planning for future games and we also went to target and bought 40 bottles of bubbles for the stadium bubble machine. I like working with the promo team because their job is strictly developing game plans and activities that will keep the crowd interested and allow them to have fun. The main objective for the promo team is to make sure that fans have such a good time that they want to come back. I thought it was really cool to see the girls making calls to entertainers and getting them to come to games for the fans to sign autographs and sing the national anthem. I realized that all these calls and these events set up are for the main purpose of bringing attraction to the games. On my fifth day, I shadowed Brian Flenner, the director of ticketing at the field. On that day I was able to follow him around and understand how what he and his interns do to get people to by tickets. The environment is kind of cool because everyone is always up on their headsets on the phone with clients making deals to come to the game. They are very organized because in this department clients are often calling about games and events that are happening months away and are not even close. The ticketing department is all about making money, and getting the job done; meaning selling tickets. They compare their work to other teams in the league and have goals that they set to make the Akron RubberDucks a premiere team in the minor leagues. I thought it was really cool to see how the focus that the ticketing department has and the persistence to continue selling all day. Their role in sports marketing is so vital because they have to promote the team to clients and convince them to spend their money with the organization.
